Summer 2023!
Youth Odyssey is entering its busiest season of the year! SUMMER! We are excited to be introducing some new and exciting destinations for our participants this year. We still have our six awesome camps, but with some different locations and new events for living local and outdoor adventure! Keep reading to learn more about what we have in store for our camp participants this summer.
Leadership Camps – Summer 2023
Youth Odyssey is known for its awesome camping experiences. This year, we retain our five leadership camps. These camps include Backpacking, Kayaking (formerly Canoeing), Rock Climbing, Outdoor Adventure, and Living Local. We are excited to provide another season of adventure and fun for youth of the Coastal Bend. For decades, Youth Odyssey has provided wonderful life experiences for kids 10 to 17 years of age. Those who participate in our camps, always come back with unforgettable memories, and stories to tell!
Rock Climbing Camp: June 11 – 16, 2023
Our first camp of the summer will be our rock climbing camp! This one is an absolute favorite for many, as participants get a chance to climb on brilliant, natural rockfaces. It’s a great experience, since rock climbing is non-existent in the Coastal Bend! This summer, we are ecstatic to be camping at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. This location has always been hard to get for a camp during the summer, so we are thrilled to have the chance to finally camp there! This park is known for its giant, pink granite dome that provides a challenge for rock climbers of all levels.
Kayak Camp: June 25 – 30, 2023 & July 23 – 28,2023
We have decided to change canoeing to kayaking this year, providing some different water sport experiences to participants this summer season. This is a pretty big change for Youth Odyssey, since canoe camp has been in our schedule for many, many summers! However, we are stoked to be offering a new adventure to participants. This year’s camp will be at South Llano River State Park. This park offers some amazing paddling trails with grand views of the Texas Hill Country.
Outdoor Adventure Camp: July 9 – 14, 2023
Outdoor Adventure is our favorite camp of the summer. A closer to home experience allows some amazing partnerships with outdoor recreational leaders in the Coastal Bend. Our camping experience will take place at Lake Corpus Christi State Park. This remains the same as the previous summer. Our partnerships include a SCUBA lesson, CPR/First Aid training, disc golf lessons, an archery lesson, and surfing lessons! Because this camp is so busy with fun and exciting activities, it is easily our most sought after camp. Youth Odyssey is thrilled to be offering this camp again, and to have the partnerships it does!
Living Local Day Camp: July 31 – August 4, 2023
This camp is another favorite! Living Local is our only day camp, where parents drop off participants at our office and pick them up at the end of the day. Living Local is very similar to Outdoor Adventure, in that we have several partnerships with other organizations around the Coastal Bend. This camp focuses primarily on the impact that people have on our local community. We want to give youth that feeling of empowerment, and impact! Together, youth will learn how to cook with fresh ingredients, the ins and outs of running a farm, and where their food really comes from. We’ll go horseback riding, visit farms, participate in cooking lessons, and more!
Site Programming – Summer 2023
In addition to our Youth Leadership camps, Youth Odyssey will be working with community partners to bring fun and educational opportunities to neighborhoods around Nueces County.
YMCA: We are their supporting summer day camps on Tuesdays and Thursdays between June 6th and August 3rd.
Portland Parks: We are providing experiential learning sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from June 13 through July 26th.
Prospera Housing Community Services: We will be offering Adventure Challenge Programs to youth residents Monday through Thursday, 2:00 to 4:00pm between July 10th and July 27th.
