Lending a helping hand can be of the best things one person can do for another. It can can come in many shapes and forms from all kinds of people. One helpful can can mean the world to someone, and possibly change their outlook on life. There are so many ways that people can serve other as well as their community.

Because of our city's proximity to the coast, we have different responsibilities in regard to keeping it clean. Our trash and other waste has an immediate impact on ecosystems around us. Our oceans play a vital role in many important processes on our planet. Keeping it clean is the least we can do to contribute to the world.

You can do this in town by cleaning up beaches, local rivers and the city itself. Youth Odyssey plays its part by taking a group of Youth Leaders to clean local parks and marinas. There are many organizations that you can be a part of waiting for you to join. There are many organizations that allow people to volunteer. Due to Covid-19, volunteering may look a little different; however, many organizations are still allowing volunteers to come and serve. It will not only allow you to lend a helping hand to your community, but it will make you feel better as well. And remember, you don't have to do it alone! Bringing a friend along will help encourage others to engage with the community. Before we know it, everyone will be helping volunteer in the city.

As you can see there are so many ways that you can help people in your community. It can be something as simple as opening a door or waving at someone driving by. Remember to do your research and find an opportunity to help others that best suits your abilities. The important thing is that we all get into the habit of helping each other.
