Finding the best outdoor activity can sometimes be more challenging than the activity itself. But, there are options for everyone that don't have to be difficult to complete.  Or maybe you want a challenge and are looking for something a little more adventurous. That is the great thing about the state of Texas. There are so many options for people with different abilities, and skill levels. Plus, with Fall starting to set in, some seasonal options are soon going to become available again. So read about some of the coolest things to do outdoors.

Let's Get Outdoors!

I feel the biggest challenge around South Texas is the weather. Our heat can be unbearable at times, with some months of the year obviously more than others. Finding the best time to go and enjoy the outdoors is right around the corner. The Fall season in Texas provides just enough cold to make being outdoors more bearable.  The only down side, is that for our extremely warm blooded individuals, it may be a little harder. But that's why we dress for the occasion. This site has some great gear and items to keep you warm while you're adventuring in the outdoors, but you can always visit your local sporting goods stores as well. But lets take a look at  some options available to you around the area.

Texas covers a vast region of the United States, and because of that is very special. Texas can be called home for a 10 different climate regions, and 11 different ecological regions as well as a very diversified topography. This means that depending on what you are looking for, Texas probably has it. And if not, we are probably close to it. Here you can read about more interesting facts about Texas and what make it unique.

So the most important thing that needs to happen, is find exactly what you want out of your outdoor experience. Do you want to hike through the mountains, navigate through Texas waterways, traverse across the plains, or perhaps catch a morning sunrise on the Texas Coast. The options are there but in case you need a little more help. Here are some of our favorite locations.

There are many things available for many different people. It all depends on what people are looking for, and what they want to get out of their adventures. The important thing is for people to find the joy of being outdoors in nature. The Texas wilderness is family friendly, pet friendly and acceptable of all levels of ability. Here at Youth Odyssey there are many choices for us to show our youth how to learn from the outdoors. Its our job to pick the most effective way of doing that. Sometimes we have to make some sacrifices like going a little farther, or having to dress a little warmer. But the reward was worth it, we have made some great memories with our youth. Camping, hiking, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking and many other things that keep us outdoors have allowed us to grow with our Youth. If you cant find a way to go out on your own, check out our volunteer opportunities and maybe you can come with us. We are always looking for volunteers that have a passion for the outdoors and youth development.
