In this new year Youth Odyssey hasn’t wasted any time getting back into the old swing of things. We started our first program this week (January 3) at Leeward Homes and we will be starting our La Armada program this coming week. Both programs will span the month of January and at the end of the program they will have the to opportunity to attend a weekend long camping trip. At the end of the month, we then begin our Lexington Manor program and head back to the same Corpus Christi Independent School District middle schools that we serviced last semester.
Youth Odyssey has been going to Leeward Homes and La Armada putting on programs for years, but our Lexington Manor program has just been reestablished. Youth Odyssey used to go to the Manor before it was torn down and rebuilt by the Prospera Housing. We went back after construction was finished and put on a pilot program; a one week program, ending with a ropes course, to see if there was enough interest within the Lexington community to continue with a full length, three week program there. The response was better than we could have expected! So they are back on the regular schedule.

All of the middle schools that we service will have the opportunity to attend our ropes course and have a weekend long camping trip to a local Texas State Park. We are excited to see the returning faces of our programs and to meet new participants as we start the 2017 programming year. Last semester we were able to engage with around 130 youth, which is more than the previous year. With all of our school visits lined up and with more resources going into 2017 we anticipate our upcoming semester having even more youth being a part of the programs.
