As I’m sure most of you know by now, Youth Odyssey has been chosen for the FIRST TIME to be on the Coastal Bend Day of Giving! It is very exciting for us to be on this 24-hour fundraising blitz because of how many more kids we will able to help and how many more programs we can start through the donations given.
Unfortunately, early registration for scheduling donations doesn’t open up until November 6th but, until then, we want to keep the Day of Giving fresh on everyone’s mind.
Obviously, Youth Odyssey’s goal is to meet the new match amount of $16, 670 and then some. Seeing as this is Youth Odyssey’s first year participating in the Day of Giving we are a little nervous, as anyone would be, so we are trying to make sure we make (at least) the full match amount before the Day of Giving has even begun. We are accomplishing this through gaining pledges from individuals and businesses.
The way the pledge system will work is you, or someone you know, or a business you may be a part of, decide to donate “X” amount of money to Youth Odyssey on the Day of Giving. We, Youth Odyssey, will have an employee or volunteer call you when early registration is open for scheduling donations to remind you of your pledge and help you with the donation process if needed.
We have already been receiving donation promises and it is a great start for us. If you or someone you know are interested in helping us reach our goal by pledging, you will email our Executive Director, Becky, at [email protected]:
- Type “Here’s My Pledge” in the subject line of the email
- Email content: your name or the business name
- Contact phone number and email
- Amount you would like to pledge
The minimum pledge amount that can be given is $10 which is actually pretty perfect because:
- $10 = Portable Team Challenges for an entire program session
- $25 = A Day trip to go kayaking, canoeing or on a ropes course
- $250 = Sending a kid on a weekend camping trip
Keeping in mind that ALL donations received on the Day of Giving, November 15th, will be DOUBLED. That means your $10 donations will become $20 and that is two full programming sessions you have helped support. Your $25 donations become $50 donations and you can send multiple kids on an amazing experience. And your $250 donations turn into $500 and you are sending two kids on a weekend camping trip where, most of the time, these kids haven’t even been outside of Corpus Christi and have definitely not camped before. All of these aspects of Youth Odyssey, together and separately, help change the mindsets and outlooks of the youth we work with and it fosters better behavior, better grades in schools and higher graduation rates for those who have been a part of our programs.
