Quality vs Quantity

DSCF3862What a great summer!!!

Eight recreation center programs, four summer camps, and nearly 200 youth… all in 100 days, Whew! By taking youth outside their neighborhoods, outside their comfort zones, and into a place they can grow safely; we are “filling a void”, as Founder Kim Cox would say.

As you know, our programs serve a maximum of 12 youth.  Why so few you ask?  Because we focus on the quality of programming not the quantity of youth we serve.  Our mission is to assist youth as they IMG_3887grow and stretch themselves though adventure challenge.  The boys and girls who leave our programs are stronger and more confident in themselves and their abilities.  Together
with three staff and 18 volunteers we traveled as far as North Padre Island National Seashore to Inks Lake State Park to Sabine National Forest; and had great adventures diving, canoeing, rock climbing, backpacking, boogie boarding, exploring all sorts of ecosystems, working on life skills (communication, team work, problem-solving, goal-setting, trust, leadership), and chowing down on creative meals.

We partnered with Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program, Downtown Farmers Market, Grow Local South Texas, Feeding America/Food Bank, Freedom Harvest Farms, Independent Equine, and James Gourley to provide high quality programming for our youth.  Thank you everyone for a wonderful summer of growing and fantastic impact!
