As summer comes to a close, we are busy planning for our fall programs. This past Wednesday, Corpus Christi Independent School District (CCISD) held their annual Mascot Day/orientation for the incoming 6th graders at each middle school campus. Youth Odyssey was invited to promote their FREE programs that will be held throughout the school year at seven middle schools. The middle schools we will be servicing October through April are: Baker, Cunningham (starts in February), Driscoll, Haas, Hamlin, Martin, and South Park.
Youth Odyssey has been providing supplemental programming for CCISD since 2002. Even when budget cuts were happening right and left, they have always found a way to bring Youth Odyssey back consistently year after year. That’s how valuable our Adventure Challenge Program is. The results of our program are: an increased mastery of life skills application, higher STARR scores, improved attendance, and a decrease in overall disciplinary measures (based on statistics from CCISD’s 2014-2015 school year and Youth Odyssey’s evaluations). The fact remains, our programs work. Youth who participate in our “challenge by choice” activities will go to the Ropes Course, kayaking, canoeing, and camping throughout the entire year, free of charge. They will be given opportunities that many of their families are not able to provide.
